Evidence levels
Every certificate and lot registration says who stands behind it. The level tells buyers and auditors how much weight a fact carries.
The ledger records who declared what and when. It does not show that the statement is true. That is why every certificate, and every lot's registration, carries an evidence level: a plain statement of who stands behind the fact. Buyers, auditors and your own team see the same tag.
The four levels you see today
| Tag | What it means |
|---|---|
| Declared by your company | Your company stated it with its own key. The ledger keeps it with its date, but nobody else has confirmed it. Every lot registration has this level. |
| Recorded by your company for ‹party› | Your company signed it through the account it keeps for that party, such as a lab. The party did not sign it. Buyers and auditors read it as your company's statement. |
| Signed by ‹party› | The party signed it from its own account, which it proved it controls when it was added to your directory. |
| Signed by an account that is not in your directory | Your administration account trusts this signer for this type of certificate, but the account is not registered for anyone in your directory, so nobody can say who signed. Some summaries shorten it to "Signer not in your directory". |
Select a tag to read About this evidence: the same explanation in one sentence. The lot page sums up a lot under Evidence, for example "2 of 3 valid certificates signed by their issuer".
Why "recorded for the lab" is not "issued by the lab"
When a lab has no account of its own, A-REX keeps one for it on your company's behalf, and your company signs the lab's result through that account. The console never shows this as "Issued by ‹lab›": it would make your company's statement look like the lab's. When the lab signs from an account it controls, the tag becomes Signed by ‹lab›. Even then, it shows that the lab's registered account signed; who registered that account is in your audit log.
Groups
Summaries, reports and dashboards group the levels:
- Independent: signed by the issuer itself.
- Confirmed by the other side: confirmed by the counterparty from its own login (see below).
- Your company's statement: declared by your company, or recorded by it for a party.
- Unknown signer: signed by an account that is not in your directory.
A lot is summarised by its weakest certificate. The EUDR due diligence statement evidence and Certificate validity reports have an Evidence column, and the EUDR checklist flags origin evidence that only your company declared. An evidence check shows each certificate behind a requirement with its tag, and counts only issuers your company still trusts.
Confirmed by the other side, and levels still to come
Confirmed by ‹party› applies today to one fact: the link to a supplier's lot. When Comes from on the lot page shows Confirmed, the supplier's own records show the delivery to your company, and summaries count the link as Confirmed by the other side. See Lots from your suppliers.
Two more levels are designed and appear once the features behind them exist: Measured by a registered instrument of ‹party› (a weighbridge or meter) and Checked in the registry of ‹party› (a public registry).
